Felin Bach Caernarfonshire Girlguiding’s HQ is set in its own attractive woodlands on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park, a quarter of a mile from the village of Caeathro. It is ideally situated for hill walking yet convenient to the historic town of Caernarfon with its medieval castle. The area abounds with natural beauty and many interesting attractions all within a half-hour journey time. These include ‘Bounce Below’ within the Slate caverns of Blaenau Ffestiniog, ‘Skyride’ at Betws y Coed, ‘Greenwood Forrest Park’ near Bethel and the large Zip Wire in Bethesda.
Situated in a sheltered position in the woodland Felin Bach is a stone built stable block converted into two comfortable hostels set around a tarmac courtyard which has a covered entrance with metal gates and a large craft or activity room. The activity room also boasts a bouldering wall.
Both hostels are carpeted throughout, they comprise dormitory style bedrooms with bunks. Each hostel has a separate room for leaders and includes a recreation or dining room, a double shower room and 3 flush toilets. Eryri Hostel has recently been upgraded to include a separate disabled toilet and washroom and a further shower room with toilet which facilitates separate arrangements for mixed occupancy. Also recently upgraded Seiont Hostel also has a separate disabled toilet and shower room which can be used to facilitate mixed occupancy. This area has underfloor heating.
The kitchens are fully equipped with a six-burner gas cooker, microwave, fridges and freezer together with kettles, pans, utensils, crockery and cutlery. All beds have sprung box mattresses. Fitted sheets, pillows and pillowcases are provided. Central heating is in all rooms except the craft room. Wood burners are situated in the recreation rooms (logs can be bought from the Warden). Electric (power and lighting) is supplied through £1 coin meters. There are 13amp power sockets throughout and WIFI is available. Vacuum cleaners are also provided.
In the woodland area is an activity area suitable for young children and a large fire pit. Beyond the woodland there is a large camp field with running water. A toilet and shower block is located on the field which can accommodate male and female visitors. There is also a separate disabled toilet. The field has a stone shelter containing fridge and freezers and a portacabin which can be used as an activity room. The field contains a large fire circle.
